Making Creative Technology Together/Animation/Create your first animation with Scratch

Don't worry if you've never tried this before – we're here to guide you every step of the way. Let's get started on your animation adventure!

Step 1: Setting the Stage

Imagine your animation as a little play. Every scene needs a stage, and that's where Scratch comes in. It's like your very own virtual theater. Go to the Scratch website (scratch.mit.edu) and start a new project. You'll see a blank stage – that's your canvas!

Step 2: Meet the Characters

Every great story needs characters, right? Click on the "Choose a Sprite" button to pick characters for your animation. You can choose people, animals, or even make your own! Just drag and drop them onto the stage.

Step 3: Let's Make Them Move!

Now, the real fun begins. Click on a character to see all the cool things you can make them do. Want your character to move? Use blocks like "move 10 steps" or "turn 90 degrees." Try combining different blocks to make your characters dance, fly, or even jump!

Step 4: Add Some Colour

Animals, people, and objects all have colours, right? Click on the "Looks" category to find blocks that can change the colour of your characters or make them bigger or smaller. Experiment with these blocks to give your animation some pizzazz!

Step 5: Time to Talk

Characters love to chat! Go to the "Sound" category to make your characters talk, giggle, or roar. You can record your own voice or choose from fun sound effects in Scratch's library.

Step 6: Bring It All Together

Now that you've got characters moving, changing colors, and talking, let's put it all together. Use the "Events" category to make things happen in order. For example, you can make a character move when you click on it or when a certain key is pressed.

Step 7: Lights, Camera, Action!

You're almost there! Click the green flag to watch your animation in action. Did something not work the way you wanted? Don't worry – that's all part of learning. Go back and tweak your blocks until you're happy with how your animation looks.

Step 8: Share Your Creation

You've done it! You've created your first animation with Scratch. Now it's time to show the world. Click the "Share" button to let others see your amazing creation. You can even ask your friends and family to try it out and see what they think.

Remember, the more you play with Scratch, the more amazing your animations will become. Don't be afraid to try new things and have fun while you're at it. Happy animating, young creators!

P.S. If you want to make more characters and scenes, just click the "Choose a Sprite" button again. Your imagination is the limit!
